What defines RAG

Since 1999

Since 1999, the Race Across Germany has thrilled road cyclists from all over the world. On carefully selected routes, it leads over some of the country’s most beautiful roads and has become one of Europe’s most important long-distance events. Each year, it challenges participants to push their physical and mental limits further – and rewards them with an unforgettable adventure on two wheels.

Non-stop across Germany

The routes run from north to south and west to east. They connect cities everyone in Germany knows, link the nation’s outermost points, and always trace the edge of the border. The race is non-stop, day and night, over hundreds of kilometers. At the start line are amateurs and professionals, solo riders and teams – all with the same goal: to conquer the immense distances in their own personal way.

Built from real experience

What makes the Race Across Germany so special is its family-like atmosphere. There’s no big agency behind it, but a small team of ultra-cyclists who have themselves ridden countless races at both professional and amateur levels – as athletes or in support crews. Riders who know what fatigue and euphoria feel like after hundreds of kilometers, and who share this passion with every participant. For the organizing team, Race Across Germany means heart, dedication, and identity.

Europe’s largest ultracycling family

Becoming an official finisher means far more than holding a jersey or medal in your hands. It means becoming part of one of Europe’s largest ultracycling families, joining the ranks of winners and record holders – and perhaps even qualifying for the legendary Race Across America. Above all, it leaves behind an experience anchored deep in the heart: the knowledge of having conquered Germany on two wheels. Or, in the founder’s words: An experience you will never forget.

Routes

West – East

Straight across Germany: from Aachen to Görlitz, the Race Across Germany West–East covers 800 kilometers through fascinating landscapes full of contrasts. From the climbs of the Eifel to the vast forests of Saxony, riders experience highs and lows, day and night, solitude and community. At the finish line at the Blue Lagoon near Görlitz, at the republic’s easternmost point, the dream becomes reality – having conquered Germany from west to east. A finish that ranks among the greatest moments in ultracycling, both athletically and symbolically.

North – South

From the coast to the Alps – the Race Across Germany North–South is a journey through the country’s diversity. From Flensburg, across plains, low mountain ranges, and Bavaria, to the mighty backdrop of the Zugspitze, each participant writes their own adventure. This route combines extremes, sparks emotions, and pushes body and mind to the limit. Anyone who finishes in Garmisch has conquered Germany lengthwise – an experience that endures and resonates long after. Within the German ultracycling scene, this event holds a special place and is considered the true royal class.

Germany 3000

3,000 kilometers, once around Germany – the Race Across Germany 3000 is the ultimate challenge. Start and finish in Hamburg, with the full variety of the republic in between: North Sea, Baltic Sea, low mountain ranges, Alpine foothills, Rhine plain, Moselle, and Black Forest. For the first time, this event is held on a fixed date each year – with all the intensity and excitement of a mass start. Whoever completes the lap has not only mastered one of Europe’s toughest ultracycling challenges, but also circled Germany in one go. An adventure that endures and is never forgotten.
